A self portrait

Welcome to my new portfolio! I thought it would be nice to start off my first post with a self portrait.

Generally, drawing a portrait is always a good exercise to see if you've improved over the years. The same goes for a self portrait, with the added bonus (or curse) to see if you've changed (and secretly checking where the first tiny wrinkles may start to appear ;) But it's the flaws that make you *you*. In my case I think you can tell I make late hours.

It's also a good way to practise skintones. How the light affects your skin and plays with different textures like your eyes. On the left is an older part of a portrait of myself. As you can see the light does very little with my eyes. It looks flat and it doesn't show any natural reflection or depth. Something I attempted to correct with my new portrait on the right. A more natural approach to the eyes and also being less afraid of showing the brushes that I've used.
